Glossary of organic logos / seals

ACT is a Thai organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards in Thailand. The seal is issued by Organic Agriculture Certification Thailand, is accredited by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and is accepted nationally.

Afrisco Certified Organic is a seal and certifying body for South African products grown using organic agricultural practices and is accredited by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). In addition Afrisco Certified Organic provides organic certification for other Southern African nations.

The AsureQuality Organic Standard seal provides organic certification through AsureQuality for New Zealand products grown using organic agricultural practices. AsureQuality is owned by the New Zealand government and is accredited by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM).

Australian Certified Organic (ACO) is a seal and certifying body that provides organic certification for Australian products grown using organic agricultural practices.

Austria Bio Garantie is an Austrian organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. The seal is issued by Austria Bio Garantie and is accepted throughout Europe.

The BCCO Checkmark (British Columbia Certified Organic) is British Colombia’s official seal issued by the British Columbia Certified Organic Program, which is managed by the Certified Organic Associations of British Columbia (COABC), and part of the Government of British Columbia, Canada. The seal complies with the Canada Organic Standard and is applied to products grown using organic agricultural practices.

The BIM Irish Quality Organic label is issued by Bord lascaigh Mhara, an Irish State Agency, and is a label for Irish seafood, specifically salmon and mussels, produced in a sustainable manner.

The Bio Suisse Bud organic certification from Bio Suisse is for products grown in Switzerland using organic agricultural practices.

Bio-Siegel is Germany’s official national organic seal issued by The Federal Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection for German products grown using organic agricultural practices.

The BIODAR Mark is an organic seal and is issued by the Union of Slovenian Organic Farmers Association (USOFA) for products grown in Slovenia using organic agricultural practices.

The BioGro New Zealand seal is issued by The New Zealand Biological Producers and Consumers Society (NZBPCS) and is for products grown in New Zealand using organic agricultural practices. BioGro New Zealand is accredited by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM).

The Cambodian Organic Agriculture Association (COrAA) Certified Organic seal and certifying body is for products grown in Cambodia using organic agricultural practices.

The Canada Organic seal, also known as Biologique Canada, is Canada’s official national organic seal which is issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and is for products grown using organic agricultural practices.

CAS Organic (Certified Agricultural Standards) is the official organic seal for Taiwanese products grown using organic agricultural standards and is issued by Taiwan’s Council of Agriculture (COA).

CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) Organic Certification is California’s official organic seal issued by CCOF for products grown using organic agricultural practices. The CCOF organic certification complies with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Program (NOP). A product with the CCOF organic certification may also display USDA Organic logo.

Certificado Org̢nico IBD is a Brazilian organic certification issued by IBD Certifications for products grown using organic agricultural practices.

Certified Maryland Organic is Maryland’s official organic seal issued by Maryland’s Department of Agriculture seal for products grown using organic agricultural practices. It is in compliance with the National Organic Program (NOP)’s standards and is accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The Organic 100 Content Standard (OCS) seal, which has replaced the Certified to Organic Exchange (OE) 100 seal is an organic textile seal for textiles/fibers issued from 100% organic agriculture. The seal is issued by the Textile Exchange (formerly the Organic Exchange) and is accepted globally.

China Organic is an official national Chinese organic seal issued by the Certification and Administration Association of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA) and is for products grown in China using organic agricultural practices

China Certified Organic is an official national Chinese organic seal issued by the China Organic Food Certification Center (COFCC) which is for products grown using organic agricultural practices.

The COSMOS-standard was developed by AISBL (a joint consortium made up of Soil Association, ICEA, Ecocert, BDIH and Cosmebio) for beauty and personal care products made with ingredients gown using organic agricultural standards and use environmentally friendly manufacturing processes. At least 95% of the ingredients must be naturally derived and at least 95% of the plant ingredients must be organic.

The Demeter seal is issued by Demeter International and certifies food, cosmetic, and textile products that are grown in accordance with biodynamic practices and principles.

The Demeter Biodynamic Farm Standard is a seal issued by Demeter USA and which certifies American food products that are grown in accordance with biodynamic practices and principles.

EcoSocial Certificado IBD is a Brazilian fair trade seal issued by IBD Certifications for certified organic products produced by organizations that demonstrate a commitment to socioenvironmental development and fair trade practices.

The EKO-Quality Mark is a Dutch organic seal from Stichting EKO-keurmerk which is certified by Skal the Dutch organic inspection body as assigned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The EKO-Quality Mark is for products to be sold in the Netherlands which have been grown using organic agricultural practices.

The Estonian Organic seal is Estonia’s official national organic farming seal issued by the Estonian Veterinary and Food Board for products grown using organic agricultural practices. It has equivalency with the EU Organic standards.

The EU Organic seal is the official European organic farming seal and is managed by the European Commission. It applies to products grown in EU member countries using organic agricultural practices.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is an international seal and certifying body for textiles whose materials were grown using organic agricultural practices and whose processing meets environmental and social criteria. GOTS is comprised of four reputed member organisations, namely OTA (USA), IVN (Germany), Soil Association (UK) and JOCA (Japan).

India Organic is India’s official national organic seal, part of the India Organic National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) and issued by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) for products grown using organic agricultural standards. The seal has equivalency with the EU Organic standard and the NOP’s USDA Organic.

The Istituto Certificazione Etica e Ambientale (ICEA) is an Italian group of ecolabels that covers a wide range of industries such as agricultural products & food, cosmetics, household cleaning products, textiles, building materials and wine. ICEA certifies environmentally friendly consumer products and products grown using organic agricultural standards. The seals are accepted across Europe.

The Japanese Agricultural Organic Standard (JAS) is Japan’s official national organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. It is managed by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and is a globally accepted seal. Jas has equivalency with the EU Organic standards and the NOP’s USDA Organic label.

The Kag Freiland Label is as Swiss ecolabel label for meat, dairy and poultry products that are issued from organic agriculture and from animals raised according to humane husbandry standards.

Krav is a Swedish organic program and seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. The program complies with European Union (EU) organic regulation and International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) standards.

Laos Organic Certified is Laos’ official national organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. The seal is issued by the Promotion of Organic Farming and Marketing in Lao PDR (PROFIL) on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Lao PDR.

The Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF) Mar que is a UK organic seal for domestic products grown using agricultural organic standards and issued by LEAF.

Luomu Sun Sign is Finland’s official national seal for products grown using organic agriculture standards. The seal is issued by EVIRA on behalf of the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and complies with European Union (EU) organic regulations.

The MAFRA Korea Organic label is the Republic of South Korea’s official national organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards and is issued by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA).

Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) Certified Organic seal is Maine’s organic seal for products grown using agricultural standards. The seal is issued by MOFGA and complies with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s National Organic Program (NOP) standards.

Malaysian Organic Scheme (MOS) is Malaysia’s official national organic seal for products grown using agricultural standards and is issued by the Malaysian Department of Agriculture.

Agriculture Biologique (AB) is the French official national organic seal for products grown from organic agricultural standards. It is issued by the Agence Francaise pour le Developpement et la Promotion de l’Agriculture Biologique.

National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia (NASAA) Certified Organic is an Australian organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards and is issued by NASAA. There are two sets of requirements: one for domestic products and one for international products. The seal is accepted globally.

The National Standard of Indonesia on Organic Food Systems is Indonesia’s official national organic seal. It was developed by Otoritas Kompeten Pangan Organik (OKPO) part of the Ministry of Agriculture and is for products grown using organic agricultural practices.

True Friends of Natural and Organic Cosmetics (NATRUE) Label is a safety and sustainability ecolabel for cosmetic and personal care products issued by the International Natural and Organic Cosmetics Association (also NATRUE). There are three levels of certification: 1) Natural Cosmetics- no tolerance of toxic or harmful ingredients, 2) Natural Cosmetics with Organic Portion- at least 70% of the ingredients must be organic or wild and 3) Organic Cosmetics- 100% of the ingredients must be organic. The seal is accepted globally.

Naturland is an organic ecolabel seal with a focus on fair labor, ethical trading principles, organic agriculture, environmentally-friendly practices and responsible forestry. Naturland also certifies wild fish, fair trade products (if they are certified organic first) and organic aquaculture products. Naturland is International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) accredited and is accepted globally.

The Debio O-label is Norway’s official national organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. It is issued by Debio, Norway’s national organic farming association.

The O-mark is Denmark’s official national organic seal and is issued by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries of Denmark. It applies to products grown using organic agricultural practices. It has equivalency with the EU Organic standards.

The Organic Food Development Center (OFDC) Organic Certification Standard is a Chinese organic certification scheme issued by the OFDC for products grown in China, Hong Kong or Macau using organic agricultural practices. It is accredited by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM).

ORC-Cert Organic Seal is a Hong Kong organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. It is issued by the Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre Certification Limited (HKROC) in conjunction with Hong Kong Baptist University. There are three levels of certification: 1) Organic- products with at least 95% organic origin, 2) Organic (In Conversion)-the producer/farm is in the process of converting to organic agriculture and 3) Made with Organic-products with at least 70% organic origin.

The Oregon Tilth Certified Organic seal is an organic certification for products grown using organic agricultural standards. The seal complies with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s National Organic Program (NOP) standards and is accepted globally.

The Organic Certification Center of the Philippines (OCCP) Certified Organic seal is a Filipino organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. OCCP is accredited by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM).

Organic Growers of Australia Certified (OGA) is a seal for Australian domestic products grown using organic agricultural standards and applies specifically to small businesses and producers. The seal is issued by the OGA Small Producer Program and complies with Australian Certified Organic (ACO) certification standards.

Organico Argentina is Argentina’s official national seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. The seal is issued by Organizacion Internacional Agropecuaria (OIA) on behalf of the Argentine government’s Servicio Nacional de Sanidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria (SENASA) who officially authorizes OIA to do so. It has equivalency with the EU Organic standard.

Organik Tarim is Turkey’s official organic seal for Turkish products grown using organic agricultural standards and is issued by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Pennsylvania Certified Organic (PCO) is Pennsylvania State’s official organic certifying body and seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. PCO complies with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s National Organic Program (NOP) standards.

Producto Organico Chile is Chile’s official national seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards; the seal is issued by the Chilean government’s Servicio Agricola y Ganadero (SAG).

Produto Organico Brasil is Brazil’s official national organic product seal given by the Minist̩rio da Agricultura, Pecuaria e Abastecimento (MAPA), the country’s ministry of agriculture, for products grown using organic agricultural standards. There are two types of seals, one obtained by an audit process (Certificacao por Auditoria) and one by a community participation program (Sistema Participativo).

Soil Association Organic is a British organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. The seal is issued by the Soil Association, is accredited by International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and is accepted globally. The seal has equivalency with the EU Organic standards.

Texas Certified Organically Produced is Texas State’s official seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. It is issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and complies with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s National Organic Program (NOP) standards.

The Global Organic Mark (GOM), also known as Organic IFOAM, is an internationally accepted organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. The seal is issued by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM).

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Organic is the USA official national organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural practices. It is managed by the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) and is accepted globally.

Vermont Organic Certified is a Vermont organic seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. The scheme is managed by the North East Farming Association of Vermont and complies with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s National Organic Program (NOP) standards.

Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) Certified Organic is Washington State’s official seal for products grown using organic agricultural standards. The scheme is issued by the WSDA and complies with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s National Organic Program (NOP) standards.

The Organic Food Chain Pty Ltd (OFC) is an approved organic certifying organisation recognised by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources of Australia under The Export Control (Organic Produce Certification) Orders.

Australian Demeter Bio-Dynamic is a seal issued by the Bio-Dynamic Research Institute, which certifies Australian agriculture products that are grown in accordance with biodynamic practices and principles.
